Leitz Elmar 4/9cm

IT, phones and consumer electronics

The Elmar 4/9cm is a moderate telephoto lens for Leica screw mount rangefinder cameras, with a maximum aperture of f/4 and a focal length of nine centimetres. It is a collapsible or rigid lens of simple optical construction, intended for portraits and general telephoto work within the early Leica system. Early examples have black and nickel finish and were produced in limited numbers before chrome versions became standard.

Check the optics for haze, scratches and separation, and make sure the focusing helicoid and aperture blades move smoothly without oil. Confirm the lens mount and serial number match the stated age and finish, as early black and nickel examples are often reworked or refinished.
